Aquatics

Swimming is a skill that lasts a lifetime! The benefits of swimming include building self confidence, promoting healthy lifestyles, and also providing a social outlet for all ages and abilities. Whether you are new to swimming, looking to improve your skills, or training for a swim team, all participants are able to progress at their own rate through lessons designed for their individual skill level.

The YMCA has been teaching swim lessons for over 100 years! The YMCA Aquatic Program curriculum is comprised around five components: personal safety, personal growth, stroke development/water orientation, water sports and games, and rescue. The Hamilton Area YMCA offers instructional lessons for swimmers of all ages beginning at 6 months to 60+.

Our swim lesson program teaches children how to have a fun experience in and around the water, while encompassing water safety skills and the YMCA core values. At each level, Y instructors focus on the participants’ skills and work to improve their technique through stroke development, breathing techniques, and building endurance. We also offer Adult Lessons, for individuals looking to refine their skills or are beginner swimmers. Through the S.K.O.R. program, we also offer instructional swim classes for children with special needs to ensure their safety around the aquatic environment.

Our pool is open regularly for walkers, lap swimmers, and recreational swimmers.  Open swim participants can utilize our hot tub, equipment, and on-deck changing facilities. Our pool is also handicap accessible.

For individuals looking for an aquatic workout, we recommend our aquatic group exercise classes, which are designed to increase strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness. Enjoy a great workout and fun atmosphere while meeting new people! Our class schedule can be found on the group exercise schedule and are included in the Facility membership.

Specialty instructional classes are designed for those that are in need of rehabilitation. The Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program, Tai Chi Plus, and Ai Chi classes are specifically tailored low impact workouts that include exercises taught to help improve posture, balance, and flexibility. Stretching, breathing, and other movements are built into the workouts.

We offer both certification and non-certification courses through the YMCA, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. Learn more about our trainings by checking out the training schedule.
